With 4th of July festivities behind us, the real summer celebration begins… for retailers.
According to a recent survey by Alliance Data Retail Services, which manages 120 store-brand and co-brand credit card programs for major retailers, 40 percent of shoppers plan to begin their annual back-to-school shopping after America’s birthday.
Through an online survey from Alliance Data, shoppers answered questions about how they plan to approach their back-to-school shopping. Here is a look at some of the key findings:
- Most shoppers are poised to earn straight A’s for their money-saving techniques. 71 percent of shoppers will use their smartphones to compare prices or download mobile coupons during their shopping trips.
- 59 percent of shoppers say Mom, like a good principal, makes all the final decisions…at least about what to buy for school; kids only have the final say 20 percent of the time.
- More than half (55%) of all participants will make back-to-school purchases throughout the school year instead of purchasing everything at once.
- 64 percent of back-to-school shoppers prefer to shop with their child(ren) versus the 36 percent who would prefer to go it alone.
