Apple’s TV Aspirations Coming to Light

According to the latest details acquired by The Wall Street Journal, Apple’s vision for a new device that can be used as a set-top box is beginning to come to light – or at least the rumors surrounding the device are.

The rumored product will deliver features that are designed “to simplify accessing and viewing programming and erase the distinction between live and on-demand content.”

That insight, the WSJ says, comes from “people briefed on Apple’s plans.”

Based on what we know – or what we think we know – the device will prop up an iOS inspired user interface and even a cloud-based DVR system.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company proposes giving viewers the ability to start any show at any time through a digital-video recorder that would store TV shows on the Internet. Viewers even could start a show minutes after it has begun. Time Warner Cable Inc. offers a limited version of this feature called Start Over.

From the looks of it, Apple is trying to blur or eliminate altogether the line that presently separates live and on-demand television.
