It appears as though Apple enjoyed a blockbuster weekend of pre-orders for the company’s new iPhone 4S.
That much is clear from the apparent reality that the device is practically already sold out.
Let’s put it this way, if you’re yet to order your iPhone 4S, there’s no hope you will still receive one by this Friday’s official release of the device. As of Sunday, Apple shows shipping times of 1-2 weeks for every iPhone 4S configuration.
That’s what happens when you sell 1 million new iPhones within the first 24-hours of pre-order availability.
Despite previously lofty sales records for the touchscreen Apple smartphone, last weekend’s launch set a new record for the tech giant.
“We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S,” Phil Schiller, Apple’s VP of worldwide product marketing said in a statement. “The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do.”
The previous single-day iPhone sales record was 600,000 when the iPhone 4 was first released last year.
