Generating almost as much buzz today as the iPad 2 itself, Apple has rolled out its innovative new “Smart Covers” for the second generation Apple tablet- the iPad 2.
Demonstrated during Wednesday’s iPad introduction, Apple’s magnetic Smart Covers make it possible for the iPad 2 to be put to sleep or awakened upon either closing or opening the case.
Inside the smart cover is a microfiber surface that keeps your iPad screen clean and free of unwanted scratches.
The magnetic Smart Covers, which also act as a stand for the tablet, come with bendable flaps that conform to the side of the device.”You can add it in a second. You can remove it in a second,” says Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “You can have a bunch of them, and pick which one you feel like today and easily put it on.”
Jobs, of course, is alluding to the broad line of colors in which the Smart Covers will be available.
Smart Covers will retail for $39 if the polyurethane variety is your Smart Cover if choice. The more sophisticated leather variety, however, will set you back $69.
The iPad 2 will begin shipping March 11th in the US and to a variety of nations beginning March 25th.
