Apple and Starbucks are joining forces for a good cause this holiday season. The iTunes maker and the java giant are pairing up to help raise money for the Global Fund AIDS research foundation.
On Thursday, Starbucks said that the “RED digital gift basket” will be available for purchase during the holidays. Each basket costs $30 and contains two $15 gift cards. In this particular example, the RED digital gift basket includes a $15 gift card for Starbucks and a $15 gift card for iTunes.
The charitable component of the venture comes in the form of a portion of the proceeds going to benefit AIDS research. All told, 5% of the purchase price of the RED digital gift basket will go straight to the Global Fund AIDS research foundation.
As of this writing, Starbucks has already donated $11 million to the fund since 2008.
Additionally, Starbucks will donate $0.05 to cause for every “handcrafted beverage” sold at participating Starbucks stores this Saturday, December 1st, which also happens to be World AIDS Day.
