Apple Sees Record High Share of U.S. Smartphone Market

Apple has achieved a new milestone in the war for mobile dominance in the United States.

On the heels of the iPhone 5 launch in September, research firm Kantar Worldpanel reported in November that Apple had bumped Android devices for most smartphone sales in the U.S. between August and October.

Now the surge is starting to be reflected in the market share we’re seeing through the holiday shopping season.

The latest smartphone sales data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech shows Apple has achieved its highest ever share in the US (53.3%) in the latest 12 weeks*, with the iPhone 5 helping to boost sales.

“Apple has reached a major milestone in the US by passing the 50% share mark for the first time, with further gains expected to be made during December,” writes Dominic Sunnebo, global consumer insight director at Kantar.
