Apple, Samsung Ordered to Scale Back Lawsuit

U.S. District Judge Lucy H. Koh ordered Apple and Samsung to scale back their claims in the latest lawsuit between the two warring tech giants.

Although their patent-infringement lawsuit case won’t go to trial until next year, all parties are gearing up for what could be another consequential showdown.

Last year in their first patent-infringement case, Apple was awarded $1.05 billion after a judge determined that Samsung infringed on six of Apple’s mobile-device patents.

This time around, Apple and Samsung have been instructed to narrow their arguments.

Judge Koh told lawyers from both companies that they must “focus and streamline” their cases to 25 patent claims, or elements of the patents at issue, and 25 accused products.

“We’ll keep narrowing and narrowing,” Koh said on the bench. “You’ve already been litigating this thing for a year; you must know something about what’s your best case.”
