Breaking news in the world of Apple tonight.
Apple is reportedly parting ways with the individual mostly to blame for the company’s less than resoundingly popular iOS Maps.
Bloomberg was the first to indicate that this departure is taking place.
Richard Williamson, who oversaw the mapping team, was pushed out by Senior Vice President Eddy Cue, said the people, who asked not to be named because the information wasn’t yet public.
For now, Apple won’t confirm or deny anything Cue has done to repair a maps division in disarray.
Trudy Muller, a spokeswoman for Apple, would only refer Bloomberg to a statement issued by Tim Cook last September as the fallout from iOS Maps became more critical.
“We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make maps better,” Cook said at the time.
Williamson’s exit is believed to be the latest step by Apple to live up to Cook’s pledge.
