Apple’s media event in San Francisco is now underway. As expected, Apple CEO Tim Cook took the stage first to lead with the keynote we’ve all been waiting for.
“Thank you for coming this morning,” Cook began. “We’ve got some really cool stuff to show you.”
But before the revelations and refreshes were revealed, Cook took some obligatory stage time to pat his company on the back. The process began with highlighting Apple’s thriving retail presence.
Apple’s stunning new store in Barcelona was the first to be placed in the spotlight.
“It’s absolutely amazing,” Cook said, adding that 83 million visitors came through the Apple store in the last quarter. There are now 380 stores in 12 countries, with 13 more store opening up this Friday, including the first Apple Store in Sweeden.
“Our stores offer the best buying experience and the best customer service on the planet,” Cook said.
“We’ve had a very busy summer for the Mac,” he continued. “We launched Mountain Lion in July. Mountain Lion is the ninth major release of the best OS on the planet.”
According to Cook, 17 million iPads were also sold during the same quarter. The iPad now commands a 68% tablet market share.
“Almost all of the Fortune 500 companies (94%) are testing or deploying iPad,” Cook says, “and they’re investing in custom apps.”
To sate he says, Apple has now sold 400 million iOS devices.
