Apple has yanked YouTube as a preinstalled app in its forthcoming operating system refresh.
The ultra-popular app is losing its posh placement in iOS 6 and Apple doesn’t seem to care.
We are told that Google’s popular video sharing service will disappear from the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
“Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended. Customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store,” an Apple representative was quoted as saying Tuesday.
Google’s stand-alone YouTube app will join the company’s Gmail app and an array of other mobile services that will still be allowed on the iOS platform.
As Android continues to gain ground on iOS, it shouldn’t really be a shocker to anyone that Apple is slowly but steadily backing away from everything and anything Google-related.
