On Friday, American Express and Isis, the mobile commerce joint venture that brings together such otherwise diverse and incompatible characters as AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, announced another new addition to the “family.”
Isis will make American Express’ U.S. Consumer, OPEN Small Business and Serve Cards available in the Isis Mobile Wallet.
For the time being, however, this roll-out will take place in only select markets.
American Express Cardmembers will be able to shop, tap and pay with their mobile device equipped with Near Field Communications technology, starting in Salt Lake City, Utah and Austin, Texas later this year.
“Now our Cardmembers and merchants can benefit from the ease and convenience of a tap-and-go experience on a mobile phone and still enjoy the benefits, services and support of American Express,” said Josh Silverman, President, U.S. Consumer Services for American Express.
“The relationship with American Express underscores our commitment to ensuring a flexible and inclusive platform that offers consumers choice in mobile payments while delivering new opportunities for merchants to connect with consumers,” adds Michael Abbott, CEO of Isis. “Today’s announcement is testament to the vision and commitment of American Express to make mobile commerce a real and positive experience for their customers.”
Although American Express is the latest big name to join forces with Isis, it all but certainly won’t be the last.
