Amazon’s Appstore Has ‘Double Vision’ on Growth

The folks at Amazon are seeing double. And that’s a good thing for business.

On Friday, online retail giant and upstart mobile juggernaut Amazon announced that since the Kindle Fire was rolled out last fall, customers have downloaded hundreds of millions of apps and games from the Amazon Appstore.

The growth is coming so fast and furious that the known number of mobile developers for the platform has doubled – yes, doubled – during the last twelve months.

This growth, Amazon says, is being driven by strong monetization from Amazon’s sprawling customer base.

This accelerating developer growth is also attributable to Amazon continuing to release services that make life easier for developers building mobile apps and games.

“Amazon’s platform is a complete end-to-end solution for developers wanting to build, market and monetize their apps and games,” boasts Paul Ryder, Vice President of Apps and Games at Amazon. “Developers can build their apps and games using Amazon Web Services’ industry-leading infrastructure platform.”

According to Amazon, developers are continuing to find that In-App Purchasing is “instrumental in monetizing their apps.” Based on the data touted in today’s announcement, the average In-App Purchasing transaction generates more than twice the revenue of the average paid app transaction.
