Amazon has procured talent from Sony Music Entertainment.
Outgoing Sony executive Michael Paull has been tapped to serve as Amazon’s new vice president of content acquisition and business development.
According to All Things D, this particular position is a newly minted one just for Paull’s talents and unique skill set.
Last year Amazon riled the music industry by rolling out a Web-based music “locker” service without getting permission from the labels first. This summer the e-commerce giant finally negotiated licenses with the labels and other copyright holders, and rolled out an enhanced version of the service, meant to compete with Apple’s iTunes Match.
Sources say Paull has already formally exited the top music label.
For now, Sony isn’t formally commenting on the matter. The company also hasn’t announced a replacement for Paull.
