Amazon Chasing Apple and Google Into China’s App Market

The heat is on Apple’s App Store today, as internet retail giant Amazon is setting its sights on the world’s largest mobile market with the latest expansion of its Android app store. Inc launched an Android application store that offers paid apps in China, beating Google Inc, as the online retailer seeks to increase the amount of digital content it offers in the world’s largest mobile phone market.

According to reports from Reuters on Monday, Amazon – which opened its Kindle e-book store in China in December – launched its Android app store over the weekend for China.

As of this writing, Google’s official app store only offers free apps in China.

Although it isn’t certain how long this lock on the paid app market will last, Amazon is the now the first Western technology company to offer a platform for paid Android apps inside the Chinese community.
