Amazon is reaching into new mobile territory with the announced launch of its hugely popular mobile shopping application for the new Windows Phone 7.
The familiar app, which enables Amazon loyalists to shop on Amazon.com directly from their mobile device, has been re-designed specifically for Windows Phone 7. The app displays all of a product’s details in a single view and allows users to scroll horizontally to search and buy without the need to load new screens or leave the app.
Particularly noteworthy is that the Amazon App for Windows Phone 7 capitalizes on the new panoramic-style layout of the Windows user interface, where customers can swipe left and right to view details of a product, read customer reviews, browse related items and make a purchase.
As expected, all the established bells and whistles are still there: Gold Box Deal of the Day, Lightning Deals, personalized recommendations, Wish Lists, 1-Click ordering, Amazon Prime membership, and order tracking.
“We are thrilled to add Windows to our suite of Amazon shopping applications,” said Sam Hall, director of Amazon Mobile. “We’ve combined the unique attributes of Windows Phone 7 with the popular Amazon shopping features customers have come to know and trust, to create an app that’s customized for Windows Phone 7 devices.”
Microsoft unveiled Windows Phone 7 one year ago and launched in the US and Canada on November 8th, 2010.
