5 Million Apple Watches Ordered for Initial Production Run

5 Million Apple Watches Ordered for Initial Production RunAccording to the Wall Street Journal, Apple’s Asian suppliers and manufactures have received orders to make between five and six million Apple Watch units during the first quarter of 2015 in preparation of the April launch of the eagerly-anticipated wearable.

“Orders for Apple Watch Edition – the high-end model featuring 18-karat gold casing – are relatively small in the first quarter but Apple plans to start producing more than one million units per month in the second quarter,” the WSJ notes.

Although Apple Watch Sport will reportedly start at $349, Apple Watch Edition will likely be one of the most expensive Apple products ever sold — possibly north of the $4,000 Mac Pro.

For now, Apple won’t confirm or deny reports about the early production run for Apple Watch.

Taiwan’s Quanta Computer is the lone assembler of Apple Watch and began production of the devices shortly after the start of this new year.
