WSJ: Google to Release Home Entertainment System

On Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Google is developing a home-entertainment system that could wow customers with its sophistication and general quality.

If the report’s sources are accurate, the platform would stream music wirelessly throughout the home and would be marketed under the company’s own brand.

Such a venture, however, would represent a dynamic shift in product focus for the Internet search giant, which has never before released and marketed a consumer electronic devices under the Google name.

The new Android device, along with Google’s pending purchase of device maker Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc., also ups the ante in its ongoing tussle with rival Apple Inc., which also controls both the software and hardware process.

This so-called entertainment home system has reportedly been in development for years, although it is expected to finally see market introduction before the close of 2012.

Do you believe the rumor? And, more importantly, would you buy the product?
