Skype on Tuesday touted a series of key improvements to its immensely popular iOS app.
The updated version of Skype for iOS delivers a slew of snazzy new features and several general performance enhancements.
“Millions of people use Skype for iPhone or Skype for iPad each month,” says Jonathan Watson, a project manager for Skype. “Today, with updates to both apps, we are introducing a frequently requested feature: Photo Sharing for iOS.”
In addition, we’ve made some improvements to the performance of the app, as we know many of you want to keep Skype running on your mobile devices all the time.
The new Photo Share feature, for example, will let users send photos taken on their iPad or iPhone directly to friends or family members via Skype.
Best of all, there’s no limit on the size of the file you can send.
“Over the last couple of releases,” Watson continues, “we’ve started to improve the overall performance of Skype’s mobile apps. The prior release began to make them less battery hungry when running in the background, so you can answer Skype calls throughout the day when they come in. And, as you’ll be able to keep Skype open, you can respond to or send IMs to friends and colleagues all day long.”
Skype for iPhone and Skype for iPad are available now from the Apple iTunes App Store.
