Report Says Apple Wants in on the VR Business

appleAccording to a new report from VRJournal, just days after Apple CEO Tim Cook admitted that virtual reality is “cool,” the iDevice maker is assembling a virtual reality team .

Why? Apple allegedly wants to challenge Facebook’s Oculus Rift and Microsoft’s Hololens.

Without much fanfare, Apple has reportedly been hiring key VR industry talent to build up its team. Of course, Apple is nowhere even close to being ready to launch a product, but it now seems as though it’s only a matter of time before Apple officially gets into the VR game.

“I don’t think it’s a niche,” Cook said of virtual reality during Apple’s recent earnings report. “It’s really cool. It has some interesting applications.”

Apple may also want to leverage VR for the purpose of driving new Mac sales, as it will take powerful machines to bring VR to life for users, VRJournal notes.
