According to the findings published Tuesday from a new Poll Position survey, 56% of Americans say they don’t think the U.S. will ever be a paperless society.
This revelation seemingly delivers a paper cut of sorts to the otherwise major momentum of the “go paperless” movement that has millions of people around the world receiving digital statements and other documents that once required the proverbial sacrificial tree.
In Poll Position’s national scientific telephone survey, only 20% of respondents said America would one day be a mostly paperless society.
24% percent of Americans were either undecided or had no opinion on the question.
The 18-29 age group had the strongest opinion and 63% said the U.S. would never be a paperless society and 23% said we could be a paperless society.
According to Poll Position, the results from men and women were similar with 56% of men and women both saying we could never be a paperless society.
The telephone survey of 1,142 registered voters nationwide was conducted December 6, 2011 and has a margin of error of 3%. Poll results are weighted to be a representative sampling of all American adults, Poll Position says.
