Some of the biggest names in mobile technology and business will tell the U.S. Supreme Court of their support for the legalization of same-sex marriage in the United States.
Apple, reports Bloomberg on Tuesday, will be among those arguing that gay marriage restrictions in 41 states negatively impact workplace morale and undermine recruiting.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to begin deliberation on California’s passage of Proposition 8, a 2008 initiative that banned gay marriage in the state. Apple previously donated $100,000 to fight Prop 8 in October of 2008.
Apple will reportedly be joined by dozens of well-known industry names, including Abercrombie & Fitch, EBay, Marsh & McLennan, NCR Corp., Nike, Oracle Corp., Office Depot, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Sun Life Financial, Xerox Corp. and Zynga.
“No matter how welcoming the corporate culture, it cannot overcome the societal stigma institutionalized by Proposition 8 and similar laws,” the companies will argue, according to a copy of the brief provided by the law firm representing the group.
The high court will being hearings on the issue late next month.
