Mobile Shines on Oscar Night as Red Carpet Antics Dominate Social Media Chatter

michael11 years ago02 mins

Mobile users flocked to their preferred social media channels in droves Sunday evening for the 84th annual Academy Awards. But the events most were tweeting and talking about pertained to a stunt pulled on the red carpet prior to the Oscars telecast.

Sacha Baron Cohen – dressed as “The Dictator” – caused a Twitter frenzy and subsequently trended across the platform when he humorously dumped what was billed as the ashes of late North Korean dictator Kim Jong II all over Ryan Seacrest during a live interview on E! Entertainment Television.

“I had a feeling something was coming,” Seacrest admitted, visibly startled by the antics of Cohen on Hollywood’s biggest – and most serious – night.

Prior to the event, rumors swirled that Cohen would attend the gala dressed in character.
