mHealth: What You Need to Know

On Wednesday morning, mHealthWatch was briefed by Verizon on the freshly announced availability of Verizon Virtual Visits.

In what comes as Google’s eagerly anticipated answer to Apple’s recently unveiled HealthKit, the new Google Fit health platform was unveiled yesterday at Google’s I/O developer’s conference in San Francisco.

We’ve all done it. In response to minor injuries, mishaps, or middle-of-the-night bouts of hypochondria, we turn to Google for answers.

Although iOS devices like Apple’s iPad and iPhone remain the most popular and ubiquitous of mobile devices among doctors and other medical professionals, mHealth is a two-way street. That is, mHealth works optimally when both patient and provider are connected in a seamless, efficient manner on their favorite devices.

Although mHealth is quickly growing in the U.S. and across much of Europe, Asia, Africa and even Australia, there’s been one glaring mHealth laggard here in North America, and that’s Canada.
