iPhone 6 Sales Projections Explode After 'Record-Breaking' WeekendApple on Monday confirmed record-breaking opening weekend preorders for its next-gen iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

More than four million units were preordered during the first 24 hours of availability.

The new iPhones officially go on sale this Friday in the U.S. and a handful of nations around the world.

“iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are better in every way, and we are thrilled customers love them as much as we do,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, in a statement published on the company’s website yesterday. “Pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new record for Apple, and we can’t wait to get our best iPhones yet into the hands of customers starting this Friday.”

In response to the strong preorders, Wall Street analysts and market watchers are enthusiastically looking toward the final quarter of 2014 with an improved outlook for iPhone shipments.

Rob Cihra of Evercore Partners estimates that Apple will ship close to 60 million iPhones during the holiday quarter, which is a 22% jump in shipments over the 2013 holiday shopping quarter.
