Prices aren’t the only things falling at Walmart. Customers were also falling overnight as they tramped over one another to get the new iPad, which officially went on sale at some Walmarts at midnight.
Not until Thursday did the retail giant confirm that it would begin selling the third-generation tablet at midnight – eight hours earlier than Apple’s 8:00 a.m. (local time) launch across the United States.
The only Walmarts to roll out the iPad at that time were 24-hour Walmarts. In other words, the retail juggernaut didn’t keep all stores open late to accommodate the iPad release.
And that’s probably a good thing. Supplies were said to be in such small quantities that getting the iPad model of your choice was still incredibly difficult to do.
Published reports overnight indicated that most – if not all – Walmarts carried only the 16GB Wi-Fi version of the new iPad (black and white) at the midnight launch.
Fortunately, if you didn’t get an iPad from Walmart overnight, your options are plentiful this morning as Apple, Best Buy, Radio Shack, Sam’s Club, Target, AT&T, and Verizon will all be ready to take your cash later today… assuming they don’t sell out before you can even get your credit card out.
