Instagram, the hugely popular photo-sharing social network acquired by Facebook last year, has secured a new bragging right rarely observed in the world of social media.
Instagram now has 100 million monthly active users.
“Today, we’re excited to announce that there are currently 100,000,000 active users on Instagram,” an announcement from the Istagram team reads. “You read that number right — one hundred million people use Instagram every month!”
Although Facebook still leads the social media pack with more than one billion registered users, 100 million is nothing to shrug off. Having launched just two short years ago, Instagram has already ballooned to half the size of Twitter. And it’s still growing at a fast clip.
“Instagram reached 90 million monthly users just last month,” explains Salvador Rodriguez of the LA Times. “So although other social networks, including Google+ and LinkedIn, have more active users, Instagram could quickly pass them if it keeps up its pace.”
