As MMW reported earlier this week, a new FCC filing points to an Apple TV model that doesn’t currently exist. The unannounced model is listed as “A1469″ and contains upgraded internal components like an A5X SoC.
With an anticipated forthcoming Apple TV refresh on the way, it only makes sense for Apple to be hammering out new deals that will deliver expanded content options in time for the next-gen Apple TV to launch.
Fittingly, last night Bloomberg reported that trusted and knowledgeable sources close to HBO admit that Apple is now in talks with the premium cable network to potentially bring HBO content to the Apple TV platform later this year.
Current plans, if finalized, will enable HBO to deliver the HBO Go App to Apple TV sometime this summer. Cable and satellite subscribers who pay for HBO would gain access to 600 hours worth of HBO films and television shows on Apple TV.
For Apple, the investment in HBO would be a wise move in light of the increasing competition from streaming services, set-top platforms, and video game consoles.
