Last week when iOS 6 was launch in conjunction with the new iPhone 5, Apple was blasted by no shortage of critics in response to the removal of Google Maps from the platform.
Apple’s branded maps service has been panned in comparison to Google Maps – particularly by longtime fans of the Google platform.
Unfortunately for Google junkies, Reuters confirmed Tuesday that there are no plans to resurrect Google Maps inside if iPhone-land.
Google has made no move to provide Google Maps for the iPhone 5 after Apple Inc dropped the application in favor of a home-grown but controversial alternative, Google’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt said.
“We think it would have been better if they had kept ours. But what do I know?” Schmidt said in Tokyo this week. “What were we going to do, force them not to change their mind? It’s their call.”
He said any decision “on whether Google Maps would be accepted as an application in the Apple App Store would have to be made by Apple.”
