Google is reportedly planning to take its ad placement opportunities well beyond our TV, mobile, and computer screens.
And we mean well beyond.
According to a new report from the Wall Street Journal, advertising may be coming to a bunch of strange places, thanks to Google.
In a December letter to the Securities and Exchange Commission, which was disclosed Tuesday, the search giant said that it could be serving ads and other content on “refrigerators, car dashboards, thermostats, glasses, and watches, to name just a few possibilities.”
It certainly sounds like Google means business.
“Our expectation is that users will be using our services and viewing our ads on an increasingly wide diversity of devices in the future,” the Internet search giant explained in the same filing.
With Google’s Android operating system wholly dominating the smartphone industry (Android represented an 80% share of shipments in 2013), it makes sense for Google to seek out new devices to conquer.
And, for the time being, Google apparently isn’t ruling out putting ads on any screen in our lives.
