In a move that possibly suggests that gaming is about to become an even bigger focus of Facebook’s growth strategy, the social network of one billion members has just acquired the team behind Spaceport.io.
Spaceport.io is an HTML5-based mobile game engine that lets developers create titles in JavaScript before porting their work across various operating systems.
Spaceport.io founder Ben Savage posted on his company’s website today that Facebook is acquiring the company’s talent, not its technology.
It hasn’t been publicly revealed how much Facebook paid to reach this particular deal.
Facebook is building best-in-class mobile experiences, and after much internal discussion with my co-founder and mentor and YouWeb Incubator founder Peter Relan, our team saw a huge potential in working more closely with Facebook. With that said, today we’re announcing that the Spaceport.io team will be moving to Facebook to make an even greater impact.
“We could not be more excited at the opportunities that lie ahead as we join the Facebook team,” Savage’s post concludes. “Thank you YouWeb, BBC, and our developer community for being a part of our journey at Spaceport.io.”
