Apple is purportedly on the verge of enthusiastically embracing local advertising as a means to drive new revenue growth and opportunities for iTunes Radio.
Amir Efrati of The Information reported Friday that Apple wants to aggressively shift its attention toward local market advertising opportunities.
“In a move that strikes at the heart of Pandora’s advertising business, iTunes Radio is expected to enable locally targeted advertising later this year, according to ad buyers who have spoken to Apple,” Efrati writes. “Apple may begin promoting iTunes with ‘house ads’ on its iAd mobile advertising network, an unusual move for the company.”
If the suggestions are correct, expect Apple to hook up with a multitude of broadcast radio stations in order to boost the volume of content on iTunes Radio.
