Breakdown: Which Retailers Did Mobile Users Checkin To The Most On Black Friday?

justinmontgomery12 years ago01 mins

Mobile shopping is set to play a huge role this holiday shopping season, and early indicators suggest the trend is well underway.  Mobile checkin apps like Foursquare, Gowalla and others that provide retail rewards were put to use in a big way on Black Friday, but which retailers held the largest share of checkins?

As a rough but interesting estimate to mobile reward checkin usage on the biggest shopping day of the year, Trendrr and AdAge released data showing the biggest retail brands on Foursquare.  The largest, by far, was Target with nearly a quarter of all checkins, followed by Walmart, Best Buy and Toys “R” Us.  Target received a total of 17,872 checkins on Friday, with Walmart capturing 12,639 and Best Buy capturing 10,565.  It’s interesting to mention that the report excluded non-retailers from the list, or otherwise Starbucks would have been the clear leader with over 25,000 checkins on Friday alone.
