Black Friday Was Strong for PayPal, Mobile Payments

PayPal is proudly touting its Black Friday mobile shopping data, which is likely far impressive than some had anticipated.

“Looks like I wasn’t the only one who chose my mobile phone over the long lines and parking battles on Black Friday,” writes Claudia Lombana, PayPal’s Shopping Specialist, on the official PayPal blog. “In fact, compared to Black Friday 2011, PayPal saw an 173% percent increase in the number of customers shopping through mobile on Black Friday 2012.”

PayPal also saw a 193% percent increase in mobile payment volume on Black Friday 2012 than Black Friday 2011. According to the company’s published results, between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. PST was the busiest mobile shopping hour during last Friday’s discount shopping bonanza.

PayPal even released information regarding the cities that made the most mobile purchases through PayPal on Black Friday:

  • Houston
  • Chicago
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • New York

PayPal is inviting curious readers to return to the blog later this week for the most up to date information on mobile shopping results for Cyber Monday, which the company admits is “historically the biggest online shopping day of the year.”
