All Things Digital Says iPhone 5 Won’t Drop Until October

In what must come as a substantial blow to iPhone fans eagerly awaiting the grand unveiling of Apple’s 5th generation iPhone, it no longer appears that September will bring with it the long-awaited iPhone 5 launch.

According to the Wall Street Journal’s “All Things Digital,” writer John Paczkowski says we’re all in for “an October surprise.”

Paczkowski has been informed by “sources” that October will bring with it the still unconfirmed launch of the new touchscreen Apple handset.

Sources with knowledge of the situation say reports claiming AT&T has blacked out employee vacations during the last two weeks of September in preparation for the retail debut of the next iPhone are misinformed.

Paczkowski quotes one source who admits “I don’t know why AT&T’s calling for all hands on deck those weeks, but it’s not for an iPhone launch.”

All Things Digital “offered no details” on the device’s design. Nonetheless, the industry – analysts and supply chain insiders alike – is buzzing with expectations of an A5 processor, Qualcomm dual mode GSM/CDMA baseband, and an eight-megapixel camera.
